WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR
Welcome to the Children’s Day School website! We’re so glad you’ve visited.
Since 1946, Children’s Day School has been providing a safe, high-quality, developmentally appropriate and enriching learning environment to educate and care for young children ages six weeks through five years old. Our early childhood early care and education program adheres to the highest quality standards and implements principles and guidelines driven by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the latest early childhood research of best practice. We are a licensed childcare center by the state of Connecticut Office of Early Childhood. |
The first five years of a child’s life are arguably the most important. During the first year of an infant’s life, their brain doubles in size. By age five, 90% of a child’s brain develops. These years are the primary time to instill a love for learning and a strong socioemotional foundation in children. At Children’s Day School, this is our mission.
Children’s Day School is a supportive, thriving community of caring educators and motivated learners. We value relationships. We value trust. We value communication. We strive for nothing less than the highest standards in early childhood care and education.
We welcome you and your child to our community.
COVID-19 Response
The 2020-2021 school year is unlike any other. Although we are still in the midst of a pandemic, we are proud to be a part of the Greenwich community in Connecticut, the state with the most successful response in mitigating the virus.
At Children’s Day School, health and safety are paramount. We are doing our part to stop the spread and strictly adhere to guidelines provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the state of Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC). All employees and preschool-age children (3+ yrs) are required to wear masks, except while eating, outside on the playground, and during naptime. Each classroom and common area has an air purifier to ensure clean air circulation and purification, and all commonly touched surfaces are frequently disinfected.
Our school is currently offering virtual tours via our website during the 2020-2021 school year. Health checks are performed daily at the entrance for all children and employees, and parents drop off and pick up children at the main entrance. Only children and CDS educators are permitted to enter the facility at this time in order to limit the number of people entering the building. Despite these difficult circumstances, remarkably, young children are extremely resilient and are quickly adapting to these new protocols.
Although circumstances may not be the most favorable, our program continues to provide high quality educational and enrichment experiences for children while making creative accommodations to limit contact and cross-contamination between children. As a result of these protocols, we have been able to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all.
We look forward to meeting you and your child.
